L’Ora Santa ha sempre avuto una grande importanza nella devozione al Cuore di Gesù. Il papa Pio XI l’ha lodata e raccomandata nella Enciclica “Miserentissimus Redemptor”.
L’origine di questa pratica è dovuta a Gesù stesso che, apparendo nella cosiddetta terza apparizione del 1674, domandò a santa Margherita Maria Alacoque di partecipare, tutte le notti tra il giovedì e il venerdì dalle 23 alle 24, alla sua agonia nell’orto degli ulivi. Lo scopo di tale pratica espresso da Gesù è: placare l’ira di Dio, implorare misericordia per i peccatori e consolare lui nel dolore provato per l’abbandono dei discepoli.
Il presente libro “L’Ora Santa”, riporta una meditazione dettata da Gesù stesso alla mistica cattolica Maria Valtorta. Come tutti gli scritti valtortiani, oltre ad essere conforme alla morale e alla fede della Chiesa Cattolica, esprime in un linguaggio comprensibile ai più una pregnanza spirituale e teologica eccezionale. Per queste ragioni il curatore Flaviano Patrizi la offre alla lettura sia di chi crede nell’origine soprannaturale degli scritti valtortiani e sia di chi li considera frutto delle capacità eccezionali dell’autrice.
Gesù ha chiesto molte volte durante i secoli la pratica di questa devozione perché essa ci conduce al centro dell’amore infinito di Dio per noi e ci infiamma di amore per Lui.
This second edition – twenty-six years after Gloria Polo’s electrocution and ten years after the publication of the first edition edited by Flaviano Patrizi – is the only edition in the world supervised by Gloria Polo.
It is not a mere transcription of Gloria’s oral testimony, a transcription that would be inadequate to convey Gloria’s total communication, but it is a literary work that is extremely faithful to Gloria’s original narrative. The text, therefore, offers guarantees of authenticity and is suitable for conveying to the reader what in an oral testimony would escape the listener’s attention.
This second edition, which became necessary for the reasons given in the proem, contains many new unpublished narratives and explicates the many implicit contents present in Gloria’s oral testimony and in the first edition of it, explications that cast a new light on Gloria Polo’s experience and make it fully understood. The text is accompanied by notes and biblical references.

Dr. Gloria Polo never wrote her testimony herself, but left it to the theologian Flaviano Patrizi-who has shared eleven years of mission with her so far-to draft a literary version of it and supervised its content. So all other texts that list Gloria Polo as the author are, in fact, mere transcriptions of Gloria’s limited and terse oral testimony.
